Taywell goes to great lengths to source fresh and local produce for its customers. However good the quality of the stock, some produce and products just don’t suit everyone. Because of this, Taywell has found alternatives for those with special dietary needs, from muesli without nuts to diabetic chocolate ice cream.
Many people have coeliac disease or dermatitis herpetiformis (a gluten induced skin sensitivity), where a gluten-free diet is considered medically imperative. Gluten is a mixture of proteins found in some cereals, particularly wheat. A gluten-free diet is, however, not the same as a wheat-free diet, and some gluten-free foods are not wheat free. Taywell stocks a range of gluten-free products from crackers to sausages.
Not all special diets are dictated by medical conditions; sometimes dietary choices result from political or ethical decision. Taywell fresh produce is, of course, ideal for vegans and vegetarians but the stores also stock a range of other meat-free and soy products. Similarly, there is a range of Organic and Fair Trade items sold.
